Automatic Chunking
Documents are split into optimized passages with 200-character overlap between chunks, ensuring no context is lost at boundaries. Each chunk gets a contextual prefix.
Embedding + Indexing
Each passage is converted to a 1024-dimensional vector embedding using OpenAI's embedding model, then stored for instant retrieval.
Hybrid Search at Query Time
When a customer asks a question, ChatGenius runs semantic search AND keyword search, merges results via Reciprocal Rank Fusion, and feeds the top matches to GPT-5.

Optional second-pass reranking using Jina AI scores the initial results for deeper relevance. Moves the best answer to the top even when initial retrieval returns near-ties.

Low-confidence matches are filtered out before reaching GPT-5. If the knowledge base doesn't contain relevant information, the AI says so honestly instead of guessing.
200-Char Overlap Chunking
Documents are split with 200-character overlap between chunks (13% of chunk size). No information is lost at chunk boundaries — context flows naturally across splits.
